The Trenton License Office wishes to thank all of our patrons. We appreciate the nice comments we receive on a daily basis regarding our customer service.
We are pleased to announce that the Chamber has been awarded the contract for the License Bureau once again. The contract will run through May 2018.
The Department of Revenue (DOR) has decided to limit the number of motor vehicle workstations in license offices that do not process a minimum certain number of transactions. Since we are a smaller office, we fell below the minimum number. Therefore, the DOR will be disconnecting one of our motor vehicle stations as of the close of business on Friday, February 28th. This means we will be left with only one computer to process your motor vehicle transactions, which includes titling and licensing.
Please rest assured, in order to serve you better, the Chamber has ordered another computer and printer. However, this computer has to be built before it can be shipped. We expect to be without our second workstation for about two weeks and we ask that you exercise patience if you come in and we are busy. We will work as fast and as efficiently as we can to make sure you are in and out in a reasonable amount of time. Keep in mind that each transaction is different and there could be time-consuming issues for reasons beyond our control.
To help speed up your transaction for renewing your license plates, please read the little blue renewal card you receive (if you receive one) as it tells you each item you need to bring with you to renew your plates. For passenger vehicles (cars and light-weight trucks), the general rule for inspections is if the vehicle is more than five (5) years old, EVEN year vehicles require inspection every EVEN year, ODD year vehicles require inspection every ODD year. You will also need your current insurance card for the vehicle you are licensing, as well as the previous two years’ personal property tax receipts (the white copy).
