See the Sights in Trenton Missouri!

Welcome to TrentonThe Trenton Missouri Chamber of Commerce...

Trentonrenton is the seat of Grundy County. Our population today is 6,216. Industry, education, agriculture and retail trade currently make up the economic base of our lovely community.

Located just 96 miles northeast of Kansas City, Trenton lies in an ideal spot for trade and travel. U.S. Highway 65 bypasses the city’s east edge, and Highway 6 runs directly through the downtown area, travels through the Amish community of Jamesport, and joins Highway 65 as it runs on its east-west course.

Evidence of the growth of Trenton in recent years includes new businesses, new homes, and the remodeling of existing structures. Our junior college is involved in a major fundraising campaign for extensive renovation and expansion. Trenton is a city of solid and substantial growth. It is one of the most desirable and attractive small cities in the Midwest.

You'll find the best of both worlds in Trenton, Missouri!

Trenton Then...

Missouriore than 150 years ago, pioneers from the Eastern States began to settle the rolling hills of northwest Missouri. Earlier, Indians of the Sac, Fox, Pottawatomie, Musquakie and Iowa tribes camped and hunted through the hills and on the river banks.

Trenton was first known as Lomax Store and Bluff Grove before being incorporated in 1857. It now serves as the county seat.

Dr. William Preston Thompson, a former Brigadier General in the Army, was the first permanent settler on record in Grundy County. Dr. Thompson and his family put down their roots near the currant town of Edinburg in 1833. Over the next twenty years, numerous others discovered the vast richness of the area and decided to settle down amongst the rolling green hills.

Transportation was a central concern during this period and the Ohio, Missouri, Mississippi, and Grand Rivers allowed access to the area from places far and wide. In fact, a government office was set up around 1837 due to the excellent location and accessibility. This was a key factor in the increase in settlers throughout the area.

Daniel Devaul and his son built the first store in Bluff Grove (present day Trenton). Previous to the store's opening, settlers would have to travel many miles to other towns in order to get needed supplies. Lomax's Store was opened by Thomas Jacobs and James Lomax, this major event let to the development of other businesses and soon the future town of Trenton was booming.

It is easy to see why so many people decided to settle in the area: beautiful green hills, an abundant natural water supply, easy access, wildlife, and plenty of room to roam. These exact reasons are why many people choose to live here today.

Established over 150 years ago, Trenton's past is as solid as its future.

Trenton Today...

Missourine of our most popular spots for tourists and residents alike is Crowder State Park which lies just four miles west of Trenton. If you enjoy camping, boating, swimming, fishing or hiking, you'll love it here!

The Trenton of today offers a wide variety of businesses, North Central missouri College, an excellent school system, a well developed, modern park system, many strong churches, and reliable public services offered through area utilities and municipalities. In addition to all of these amenities, we have great people. Trenton residents are hard working and dedicated.

Beautiful Riverside Country Club is a very challenging 9- hole golf course. Four municipal parks, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a football/soccer stadium, and the Ketcham Community Center add greatly to the regional sports facilities of the area.
