In 1958, Forrest Curtis Cox II joined the practice with his father. The father and son duo was able to work together for one year before health concerns forced the elder Cox into retirement. Curtis Cox II practiced for many years at the Cedar Street location and was a pioneer in his field with implant techniques. The building which housed the practice was built onto in 1970. In 1986, Cox’s son, Paul, joined his father to make the third generation of dentistry. The building and practice were expanded at that time. He worked with his father from 1986 until 2002 when Curtis Cox retired. Prior to coming back to Trenton, Paul worked in a dental lab which gave him a thorough understanding of the structure of crowns, bridges, and other dental prosthetics. Today, Paul specializes in general dentistry with an emphasis in preventive care and reconstruction. Trained at UMKC School of Dentistry, Cox prides himself in delivering the same quality of service that the family has been noted for during the past 81 years. In thinking back to the practice through the years, Cox notes that dentistry is no longer solely restoration work. Today’s patients tend to be more concerned with aesthetic reconstruction. While Cox delivers a high quality, bright, white smile, he also maintains an emphasis on structural integrity. His background in the lab proves beneficial because he fully understands the structure of crowns and bridges which makes the application easier. The dental practice has always had many patients from a wide geographical area. Currently, Cox sees patients from a 3 state area including: Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri. The office hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 8:30-5:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:30-12:00. In addition to services offered by Dr. Paul Cox, the office staff is comprised of three individuals with a combined 21 ½ years of service. Bobbie Ward, from Gilman, a certified dental assistant, has been a part of the practice for the past 12 ½ years. Natalie Christy, has been employed there for 1 ½ years as a chair side assistant. Linda Hahn, a 7 ½ year veteran, serves as office manager. In addition to running a very busy practice, Dr. Paul has found time to devote
to community activities. He and his wife, Barb, are the parents of one son,
Andy. Barb teaches civics at Trenton High School, while Andy is a sophomore
at The University of Missouri majoring in plant science and turf management.
Paul has served as President of the Riverside Country Club, a Trenton R-IX School
Board member, and has been an active member of the Assembly of God Church, along
with a variety of civic and sports organizations.
