Trenton is the seat of Grundy County and was first known as Lomax Store and Bluff Grove. Our city was incorporated in 1857 and serves as the county seat. Today, the population of Trenton is 6,216. Industry, education, agriculture and retail trade currently make up the economic base of Trenton. Located just 96 miles northeast of Kansas City, Trenton lies in an ideal spot for trade and easy transportation. U.S. Highway 65 bypasses the city’s east edge and Highway 6 runs directly through the downtown area and joins Highway 65 as it runs on its east-west course. Evidence as the growth of Trenton in recent years can be cited by new businesses, new homes and the remodeling of existing structures. Trenton is a city of solid and substantial growth. North Central Missouri College makes higher education accessible and affordable to residents from Trenton and throughout North Missouri. The Trenton R-IX School District with a AA certification includes S.M. Rissler Elementary, which has instruction for grades K-4; Middle School houses 5-8; and Trenton High School provides education for grades 9-12. There are two pre-schools. Law Enforcment & Safety Our Police Department employs 17 personnel, 1 Sheriff and 4 Deputies, and conducts regular patrol and security inspections, crime prevention inspection and training, electronic security system, and a D.A.R.E program. Fire and Rescue provides 24-hour service with 17 employees - 6 full-time and 11 volunteers. We have three pumpers, one brush quick response vehicle, two fire support vehicles, and an under-water rescue team. Our fire rating is "7." Our 24-hour Ambulance service is based at the Safety Complex. There are three advanced life support vehicles staffed by six paramedics and two EMT’s. We are also a home base to LifeFlight Eagle.
